Ho Chi Minh City’s goal on 50% office buildings and households using solar power

Ho Chi Minh City strives for the objective of 50% office buildings and 50% households using rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption by 2030.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee curently issued a plan to save electricity in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2023 – 2025.

Accordingly, the city sets specific goals: In the period 2023 – 2025 and the following years, Ho Chi Minh City strives to annually save at least 2% of total electricity consumption; reduce power loss of the entire power system to below 3.5% by 2025; strives for 50% office buildings and 50% households using rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption by 2030; 100% street lights is LED by the end of 2025.

To achieve the above goals, the city requires agencies, offices, buildings, offices, schools, hospitals, etc. to implement electricity saving plans to ensure minimum annual savings 5% of total electricity consumption during the year compared to the electricity consumption plan if the electricity saving plan is not implemented. Take advantage and mobilize resources to install and use rooftop solar power systems and solar water heating systems to reduce electricity consumption from the national electricity system.

For organizations and individuals managing public lighting systems, advertising purposes, outdoor decoration, and traffic lighting, along with the regional power company to implement electricity saving plan, ensuring at least 30% of total electricity consumption for the above lighting activities. Replace decorative lights and advertising lights with energy-saving lights, striving for 100% street lights is LED by the end of 2025.

Restaurants, hotels, commercial service establishments, office complexes and apartment buildings reduce 50% of outdoor decorative advertising lighting capacity during the evening peak of the electrical system according to the requirements of the regional electricity company.

For manufacturing enterprises, it is necessary to develop and implement solutions for economical use of electricity, target that in the period 2023 – 2025 and the following years, at least 2% of electricity consumption per unit of product is saved each year or save at least 2% of total electricity consumption during the year.

Encourage the installation and integration of renewable energy sources such as solar energy and wind energy into the internal energy system; Prioritize the use of appliances labeled with high energy efficiency.

Households also need to have the habit of using electricity economically and efficiently, encourage to install and use rooftop solar power systems and solar water heating systems, etc.
