INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CERTIFICATE (IREC) – HOW IT WORKS AND REGISTRATION PROCESS IN VIETNAM

International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) is derived from the unit of 1 Mwh renewable energy powers (solar, wind, hydro, biomass). An I-REC is created when a renewable energy source generates 1 Mwh of electricity and transmitted to the grid.

Once the electricity supplier has delivered energy into the grid, I-REC certificate can be marketed as an energy commodity. The customers are businesses causing pollution from business and production activities and I-REC is considered carbon credit to offset the emissions. Therefore, I-REC suppliers are usually renewable electricity producers, while I-REC buyers are consumers who wish to reduce indirect emissions from their electricity consumption or they have a goal of using 100% renewable energy.

I-REC Registration Process in Vietnam

1. Demonstrate renewable assets
2. Register accounts and assets in the Evident system
3. Verify and provide power generation data, approved by an authorized company of the international REC standard
4. Issue certificates
